Shower chairs have a corrosion resistant frame with a push bar or grip handles. The side fixtures/armrests are removable and/or foldable, thus allowing a sideways transfer. The backrest and seat design allow shower water to flow away unobstructed. The shower chair also includes a commode fixture.

Stationary shower/commode chairs have four legs.

Shower/commode roll-chairs have four small swivel castors (two with locks) that allow easy turning into position. The footrests are removable or may be folded away.

Patient-propelled shower/commode wheelchairs have two large wheels with handrims in the back and two swivel castors up front. The footrests are removable or may be folded away.

Indication
The use of a shower/commode chair is suitable when a handicapped person is unable to use the available shower or bath facilities. The shower facility must however be designed to allow the shower/commode chair to roll in and out unobstructed.
